Electric vs Manual Toothbrushes

There are several studies comparing the effectiveness of manual toothbrushes as opposed to electric brushes.

While all electric toothbrushes are not the same, studies have found that, in general, they are more efficient at controlling plaque than manual toothbrushes. Although you can do very good brushing with a manual toothbrush, electric toothbrushes make the task easier and more efficient.

Electric Toothbrush

Additionally, some electric toothbrushes, such as Sonicare, produce sonic vibrations that are impossible to mimic with a traditional toothbrush. Other electric toothbrushes, such as Oral-B and Rotadent, have small heads, making it easier to access the hard-to-reach areas of your mouth. This aspect is especially important for patients with braces and/or a history of gum disease.

However, it is important to note the most important aspect of brushing is getting it done. Brush a minimum of two times daily and you will be pleased with the results, regardless of which brush you choose.
